On the second map above note that Hwy 7 now is fully built and is a direct link to the East border crossing
into Mexicali. The place where Evan Hughes Highway (#115) and Interstate 8 come together is where the hot springs are
and Evan Hughes going West is the main street of El Centro as well as the main street of Holtville. I think frankly
it is the old "Old Hwy 80" and as such is the main street of Jacumba which is our 50 mile away summer headquarters.
You can still see bits and pieces of the old hwy 80 as you come up the big time grade in which you climb 3000 ft in 12 miles
of freeway driving between Ocotillo and Jacumba. There is a wonderful description of what that "trail" must have
been like back in the Barbara Worth days - early 1900s when the breech occured which resulted in the Salton Sea. Read
the book if you ever have a chance. Our area is just full of interesting history.
For a more zoomed out map that shows where Holtville is in relation to San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix and
Mexicali,
1. google hotel or motel in Holtville.
2. Go to map for Klassy Karrot
3. Zoom out to level 8 from the bottom
4. This does not show Julian but it does show Ramona and that is the town that is just 22 miles west
from Julian.
NOTE THAT HOLTVILLE IS ABOUT IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL OF THEM. THINK OF US AS A DESERT "BIG CITY"
PARK SURROUNDED BY MEGA CITIES.
In the future I will try to get the map on this site but havent figured out how to do that yet and the person
who does is on a long vacation. . . .
MEXICALI
This map is a slow loader, but if you need a map of Mexicali it's worth the wait. The map might be huge
but in all reality there are only about 10 - 15 main streets the rest are similar to American gated communitys just without
the gates, only one enterance and one exit. So click the link below to see the map.
