Dont you just love those old trucks from the 50s? Many of them are still in use. Some of the Pic
Ups have increased in value to the point where you would have to pay almost new car prices to buy a fixed up one.
I've been eyeing the old flatbed trucks that you still see for sale for very low prices sometimes in the truck trader.
But hey a truck in Arkansas is just too far. Shipping could be $1000 or more. So I've kept my eyes peeled here
in the Imperial Valley and finally I saw one for sale for $800. We offered $600 and our offer was accepted. The
truck runs but oh my it was not a beauty.
But we have been painting and restoring for weeks. Nothing fancy but it is nice and clean now.
So what are we doing with a 1955 Flatbed Truck?
Using it for a sign of course. The sign is not quite done but maybe by tax time 2008 it will be.
A 1955 seems perfect for the Klassy Karrot because that is just about exactly when the apartments were built as
a motel - the classic kind where you have covered parking right next to each unit. Somewhere along the line, car
ports were turned into living rooms. You can still see where the living rooms used to have the windows of the unit next
door. We may be changing that soon but maybe we can add some pictures here before we make that change. Anyway,
it is not hard to imagine a trucker whose work is in the fields, maybe transporting boxes of carrots, staying at the Klassy
Karrot when both it and the truck were brand new. Once the painting is done I'll post pictures both before and
after.
If you are a lover of those old trucks like I am you'll appreciate our new mascot.
